This is a long overdue second part to the series I started a little while ago called ‘Being a Blogger’, I’ve been so busy recently that I haven’t had the chance to sit down and write really, hence the delay! But I really wanted to get this post out there as it’s something I still think about when considering what to post.
When I first started my blog, I knew roughly what I wanted to write about and so I started it all off. As time went on however I realised that some of what I was writing didn’t really fit into my interests or personality, rather I was trying to adhere to what was popular. Beauty, fashion etc, not to say that fashion or beauty bloggers don’t deserve credit for the work they do, but I was trying to write content which didn’t reflect me. I would be disheartened when posts I worked really hard on would get little to no attention and so I tried to fit in to a particular ‘niche’.
Over time though, through finding myself and other bloggers who write about such diverse topics, it’s made me realise that there’s no need to box yourself in. You can write about anything you want and there’s no one type that’s better than the other, just follow what you’re passionate about. For me, that’s books and finding new places to explore and eat. For others it could be expressing their personal style or bringing attention to important causes. There’s been a lot of drama in the blogging world recently, but no two bloggers are the same and that’s what keeps this form of expression so interesting.
So basically, I’d like to say that in my opinion there’s no one ‘niche’ you need to fit into when considering starting a blog and creating content. What works for someone else, may not work for you so stay true to yourself and the rest will come naturally after some hard work and persistence. There may well be times when you feel like giving up or getting bogged down by numbers, I certainly have before.
Until next time,
